We saw a great display of Australian Quake this past weekend down at the Melbourne Esports Open which turned out many new players and a few experienced ones in Lure, Crunchy, Joan of Arc and Kuachi. The tournament format was groupstage with some great games between the four then into an single elimination finals which saw Joan of Arc edged out by Lure (2-1) and Kuachi going down to the upcommer Crunchy (2-1). This left us with our epic rematch Grand Final between Lure and Crunchy.
Crunchy first appeared on the scene in July winning the Beginner Duel #9
in sweeping fashion. Arguably too good for Challenger skipped a division to later play in the among the Elite. Lure on the other hand has been up and down in the online competitions most recently nearly defeating Steej losing out in the 5th round of a bo1.
We also had a chance to see Lure vs Crunchy yesterday which was a lot closer than it appeared on the scoreboard. Hopefully both can bring their A game today and put on a good show for the crowd down in Melbourne.
Without ruining the maps play by play the first two maps Blood Run and Sarnath were bost extremely close that pushed both players to the brink. Felt like nerves may have got to Crunchy with Lure taking a strong stance in Vale of Pnath and Awoken. Match point in hand, Crunchy was not going down without a fight turning Corrupted Keep to an in your face LG fight (arguably now the greatest LG in Australia). 3-2 still on Match point Lure closed out Blood covenant with a strong display bringing it home to defeat Crunchy and become the MEO Quake Champions Winner.
