Introduction
The evil within 2 returns 3 years after the original game by director and producer Shinji Mikami. Developer Tango Gameworks have managed to improve on all the shortcomings of the first game and have really made something very special in The Evil Within 2.
The Evil Within 2 is a third-person survival horror video game set in the Town of Union, where our lead protagonist "Detective Sebastian Castellanos" has to once again fight to survive the horrors of this open world while searching for his missing daughter Lilly and wife Myra.
What i liked straight away
The evil within 2 is set in a series of smallish open world segments where you are free to explore as you choose, there are multiple side quests to complete that complement the main missions. These are found using your radio which helps to track down where interest points in the world are. I really liked the side missions in this game, a lot of them had you tracking down lost members of a mobius team that had become trapped in unity. They were all interesting and usually provided you with upgraded weapons and felt rewarding to complete, they also really helped to flesh out the story and atmosphere of the game.
Game Intricacies
Weapons in the game are very fun to use and range from pistols, crossbows, shotguns and sniper rifles, all of which can be upgraded back a Sebastian's home base.
Crafting is also a major part of the evil within, all bullets and health kits are crafted back at sebastian's home base where you spend the resources that you have gathered throughout the world. This is also where we can upgrade sebastian himself, with Nurse Tatiana who makes a return to help with upgrading various skills in sebastian's tech tree.
Game Objectives
Throughout the town of Union there are multiple enemy types of varying difficulty ranging from your standard enemy that is susceptible to sneak attacks from behind too some more mini boss type enemies that require a bit more planning to take down.
The game has multiple boss fights spread across the game that will challenge you in varying ways, These are usually good times to implement all the tactics you have learnt into action.
The enemies in this game are also intrinsically locked to sebastian's upgrades as killing them provides you with the only resources to upgrade your abilities, this creates an interesting and fun game balance between wanting to fill out sebastian's upgrades and forcing you to fight into situations that you would normally want to sneak around.
